The Crying Wind

The story takes place on a small island near the main island of Okinawa, many of the characters are trying to come to terms with their past and present. The Crying Wind is based on stories by MEDORUMA Shun, a prize-winning writer from Okinawa, who also then wrote the screenplay for it and is directed by HIGASHI Yoichi. Okinawa is a place where the past and present are folded into one. The unhealed scars of World War II, the horrors that the Okinawan people faced at the hand of the Japanese Imperial soldiers, and the trials that the Okinawa faced and still face today with regards to the US army fill the background and story of this film.

The Face of JIZO

Three year after Hiroshima was destroyed by the atomic bomb. The story revolves around the life of Mitsue, a young woman and a survivor of the bombing and her relationship with her father, Takezo. It is focuses on the issue of Hibakusha, the survivors of the first atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. These survivors not only had to deal with rebuilding their lives but also healing their hearts and their guilt for having survived their loved one. But with each passing year, their stories are being forgotten. With The Face of Jizo, their lives can be remembered.

The animation ‘Glass Rabbit’ is based on the best-selling novel by Takagi Toshiko that was originally released in 1977. The Glass Rabbit portrays the horrors of life and death during the air raids on Tokyo during World War II. It wishes to express to current generations the effects and fears of war so that people will struggle for peace.

The UGETSU Story

A potter Genjuro and his family go off to a castle town to peddle a large quantity of their ware. On their way, Genjuro feels uneasiness and danger of war, and lets his wife and children turn back home. Genjuro sells his ware with great zeal. When he delivers a large purchase of ware to the KUCHIKI  residence, Genjuro is fascinated by beautiful WAKASA. He is lured on to spend joyful days with her. When he knows the truth that WAKASA is a ghost, he returns home where he is welcomed warmly by his wife who is also a ghost as she has been killed on her way to return home.
