Dance Dance Asia – Crossing the Movements
Bangkok Tour
Japan Foundation Asia Centre proudly presented Dance Dance Asia – Crossing the Movements, Bangkok Tour, a final round of the project aiming to promote exchange and collaboration among street dance groups in the ASEAN region.
The Bangkok finale featuring three impressive dance groups from Japan: UMEBOU, TOKYO GEGEGAY and 90’s took place at M Theatre on Petchburi road from 28 to 29 March 2015. Although the show is based on the inspiration from street dance, the dancers had also introduced a variety of genres from hip-hop, jazz dance to contemporary dance.
Popular group, UMEBOU wowed the audiences with their revolutionary dance entertainment style featuring J-Pop and jazz dance-based performances featuring stories easy to follow for all ages and centered on their idea that “dance is all about feeling!”
TOKYO GEGEGAY, led by MIKEY, who has worked as a choreographer and back up dancer for Miliyah Kato, BoA, Crystal Kay, MISIA and others, performed a deep storyline and unique world view which entertained and astonished fans. They also had a special collaboration with top Thai street dancers, THE ZOO Thailand! Moreover, the group also collaborated with Sikkha Asia Foundation to provide workshops for children in the Klongtoey slum community and gave them the opportunity to perform on the same stage with them at M Theatre.
Already known among dancers in Thailand, 90’s brought together Japan’s top skilled new-age dancers born in the 90’s from the Jazz, Hip Hop, Break, House, and Waack scenes to create the highest level stage performances in Japan.
To even hearten up the cultural exchange, representatives from three groups held a three-session workshop on 28 – 29 March for interested dancers and general fans at the Creative Industries, second floor of M Theatre.
Before the last show in Bangkok, the project had run through three Southeast Asian cities. In January, s**t kingz, Tokyo Gegegay and Tapdancerize startled Manila while in early February Wrecking Crew Orchestra, Time Machine and Blue Tokyo amazed their audiences in Kuala Lumpur. Memorable Moment, Moreno Funk Sixers and 90’s stirred the vibes in Hanoi and this event was the time for Bangkok to enjoy the experience like other cities! |
