The Japan Foundation, Bangkok, in partnership with the Embassy of France in Thailand and Thai Animation and Computer Graphics Association (TAGCA) with support of Institut Français Paris, are proud to present the “Special Program by JFF” as a part of the BEYOND ANIMATION Festival. This program will showcase selected Japanese animations, meticulously curated by JFF (Japanese Film Festival). The event is designed to delve into the fusion of animation, art, and culture. Within this distinctive program, the program features 3 films; first premiere in Thailand of “Dozens of Norths” in Bangkok and a re-screening of “INU-OH” and “Poupelle of Chimney Town” in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Exclusively for this program, there will be post-screening Q&A session with the renowned director of “Dozen of Norths,” Yamamumra Koji, following each screening of his film together with Dr. Graiwoor Chulphongsathorn, a lecturer from Chulalongkorn University as a moderator. These engaging sessions are scheduled for September 29th and 30th, 2023, at the Alliance Française Bangkok.
“Dozens of Norths’ is Yamamura Koji’s first feature film, co-produced with MIYU production and released in 2021.Synopsis: North is everywhere solitary. Here is all North. This is a record of the people I met in these Norths. However, my memory is fragmented and does not get the point at all. Now I’m starting to wonder my efforts came to nothing. I’m just getting the occasional recognition of the existence of the world through the dull pain changes shape little by little.
“INU-OH” an animated film by another renowned Japanese director, MASAAKI Yuasa. It is a period drama as gorgeously visual rock musical animation with a bold take on the birth of traditional art “Noh” in the 14th century. It was first screened in Thailand earlier this year in Japanese Film Festival 2023.
“Poupelle of Chimney Town” is the story of young Lubicchi living among the thick smoke from the chimneys of his isolated town, yearning to see the “stars” — to know the truth — his father always told him about. One Halloween night he meets Poupelle, a man made of garbage, and togetzher they look to the sky as their adventure begins. Spectacularly beautiful, filled with inspiring performances and splendid music and sound effects, and produced at Tokyo’s famed Studio 4ºC, Poupelle of Chimney Town brings laughter, tears and joy. This film first screened in Thailand in Japanese Film Festival 2022.
