The Japan Foundation, Bangkok, together with Doc Club & Friends, is pleased to present the “Between Page and Screen: A Conversation with Yukiko Sode” a special film screening and post conversations session, taking place on Sunday 27 September 2026 at Doc Club & Friends, 2nd Floor, Cloud 11, Bangkok, with online streaming of the talk session. This program is presented as part of the Bangkok International Film Festival 2026 (BKKIFF2026)
“Between Page and Screen: A Conversation with Yukiko Sode“ features a special screening of ‘All the Lovers in the Night’, followed by post-screening conversations. The discussion will feature the film’s director, Yukiko Sode and guest speaker Asst. Prof. Matana Jaturasangpairoj, a lecturer in the Department of Eastern Languages, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University who has also a prolific book translator. The session will be moderated by Mr. Kong Rithdee, former Director of the Thai Film Archive (Public Organization) who has also collaborated with the Thai Film Foundation to promote film education in Thailand.
The movie ‘All the Lovers in the Night’ is the Japanese romantic drama film that released in 2026 based on the novel by Mieko Kawakami. Starring by Yukino Kishii as Fuyuko and Tadanobu Asano as Mitsutsuka. It tells the story of Fuyuko, who lives quietly as a freelance proofreader, discovers quiet moments of joy during her walk alone through the city at midnight on her birthday. A subtle shift occurs when she meets Mitsutsuka, a physics teacher, and a gentle connection begins to form between them. Yet, beneath their growing bond, both carry unspoken truths they cannot easily share with one another.
Between Page and Screen: A Conversation with Yukiko Sode” is organized with the objective of enabling Thai audiences to experience and deeply appreciate contemporary Japanese literature and cinema, thereby strengthening the relationship between the Japanese and Thai film communities.
About the Speakers
Yukiko Sode — The Director of ‘All the Lovers in the Night’ (2026)
Born in 1983 in Nagano, Japan, She is a filmmaker and screenwriter whose work has established her as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Japanese cinema. She won two awards at the Pia Film Festival for her debut feature Mime-Mime (2008), which went on to screen at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Her second feature Good Stripes (2015) earned her the Kaneto Shindo Award, one of Japan’s most prominent newcomer prizes. Aristocrats (2021) a sharply observed portrait of women navigating class and identity in Tokyo — premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and became a significant arthouse success in France, drawing over 71,000 admissions. She also wrote and directed the Disney+ series Because We Forget Everything (2025).
Matana Jaturasangpairoj, Ph.D. — is an Assistant Professor in the Japanese Section, Department of Eastern Languages, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
Her research interests include Japanese modern and contemporary literature, Japanese-Thai literary translation, and Japanese literary film adaptation. She most recently presented her work on “From Peripheral Translation to New Creative Territories: Translating Toshiki Okada into Thai,” and her research also examines the translation and reception of Haruki Murakami’s works in Thailand. In addition to her academic work, she is a literary translator, having translated works by contemporary Japanese authors, including the novel 1Q84 (co-translated) and other short stories by Murakami Haruki, the short story collection The End of the Special Time We Were Allowed by Okada Toshiki, and Zarazara by Kawakami Hiromi.

Kong Rithdee — writer, critic, translator and screenwriter.
He works with Thai Film Foundation to promote film education in Thailand. He was former deputy director of the Thai Film Archive.
