Grants Opportunities for Fellowship, Research, Exhibition, Exchange and Networking regarding Japanese Arts and Culture
The Japan Foundation offers special grants for diverse exchange activities through fellowship, research, exhibition and networking programs among Japan and ASEAN countries below.

*Applicants for grants A, B, C are eligible for ASEAN individuals/ art institutions while grants D and E are for Japanese organizations or Japanese individuals only.

A. The Japan Foundation Fellowship for Arts and Culture in Asia (Q-FWA 2026)

This program grants fellowship with the aim of developing human resources in the fields related to Arts and Culture to those who cultivate and nurture transnational collaborating/co-creating projects in Japan, ASEAN countries, and Timor-Leste.
The program supports artists, researchers, curators, producers, educators, etc., in developing talent and networks through research, study, or creative activities in Japan and ASEAN countries (plus Timor-Leste).
Project period: June 15, 2026 – March 31, 2027
Duration: Short (10 -59 days) or Long (60-180 days)
Application deadline: December 2, 2025 (13:00 JST)
Result Notification: Late April 2026

B. Ishibashi Foundation/The Japan Foundation Fellowship for Research on Japanese Art (Q-FW2026)

Implemented by the Japan Foundation with generous funding from the Ishibashi Foundation, this program aims to support the development of professionals specializing in the study of Japanese visual arts.
The program provides an opportunity for curators and researchers from abroad to conduct research in Japan, and by so doing, promote the study of the field and the introduction of Japanese art overseas.
Project period: June 20, 2026 – March 31, 2027
Duration: 21- 59 days
Application deadline: December 2, 2025 (13:00 JST)
Result notification: April 2026

C. Exhibitions Abroad Support Program (Q-EAS2026)

This program is designed to provide financial support for museums and art institutions overseas that organize exhibitions introducing Japanese art and culture to audiences overseas. In addition, this program is designed to support overseas international exhibitions such as biennials/triennials introducing Japanese artists and their works.
Project period: April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027
Application deadline: December 2, 2025 (13:00 JST)

D. Grant Program for Enhancing Cultural Exchange and Networks in Asia (Q-NWA 2026)

This program aims to provide partial support to Japan-based organizations implementing people-to-people exchange projects in the cultural and artistic fields to foster next-generation exchange and development, mainly with ASEAN countries.
It should be noted that overseas institutions cannot apply directly but can partner with Japanese organizations which they plan to collaborate with.
Project Period: May 2026 – March 2027
Deadline: December 2, 2025 (13:00 JST)
Result notification: April 2026

E. International Creations in the Performing Arts

The Japan Foundation seeks organizations that will jointly organize international creations in performing arts between Japanese and international artists.
*Any organization or individual located in Japan that meets all the requirements mentioned in the program outline may apply, provided that the principal co-production partner is an artist active in an ASEAN country from this fiscal year onward.
Project Period: The project must start after April 2026, and end by March 31, 2028 (in the case of performing overseas, a project for which dates of departure from and arrival in Japan of those involved are within the project period.)
Deadline: December 2, 2025 (13:00 JST)
Result notification: April 2026
