| The story of a father( Chishu Ryu ) and his only daughter( Shima Iwashita ) who os approaching the age at which most Japanese girls are supposed to marry. The father finds himself in the dilemma of every father, tom between the desire to see his daughter happily married and wanting to keep her himself. In the end, he makes his choice and then sits in the long autumn afternoon drinking with his friends. |

| A professor (Chishu Ryu) made a living on a still residential section of North Kamakura. He has a daughter ( Setsuko Hara ) who is already at the age of marriage. His daughter does not want to leave the father alone, and is in no hurry to marry. He persuades his daughter to marry in the long run and He is left alone. |
